Skin Care — 17 September 2011
Of all the FAQs in the world, it is difficult to think that there is going to be a beauty FAQ as well. But the fact is, we require information on beauty more than we require to understand things about our iPhone. We see changes happening to our skin, we see cosmetics reacting, identifying brands that may or may not work for us, but we don’t have the clarity it requires.
Check out these top questions on beauty with the answer you just need to hear.
Are Dark Armpits confusing you?
‘She has smooth baby like armpits and mine looks I have come back from war…’. If you have similar thoughts, then you need to understand why. Dark armpits are caused by these factors:
- Shaving: armpit shaving only gets rid of the surface hair making your skin to appear dark as there is still sub surface hair. Try waxing, it gets rid of hair from a deeper level.
- Dead Skin Cells: your armpits can appear dark because of the dead skin cells that are trapped in microscopic cells of your skin. Try exfoliating at least once a week with a beauty product that has lactic acid.
- Antiperspirant and Deodorant Usage: too much use of deos can react with your skin and can cause discoloration. Try to use these products on a moderate level.
- Acanthosis Nigricans: this is a medical condition that causes light brown to black markings on the neck, under the arms or in the groin. It happens in relation to insulin production or having glandular disorder and attacks people who are overweight.
Can lip balm be actually addictive?
Well, it is not an addiction but your body can start getting dependent on lip balm. Whenever your lips start feeling dry or flaky, they send a signal to a deeper level of skin to produce fresh, plump skin cells. But when you take control of the situation with an artificial lip balm, you slow down signal as an artificial barrier is created. As the lip balm wears off, suddenly a signal is pushed to the deeper level to generate fresh cells but even before the action takes place, you once more apply balm and the natural instincts go for a toss.
Is there a difference between anti-perspirant and deodorant?
Antiperspirant as the name suggests blocks sweat production and stops you from perspiring. A deodorant only masks the odor. At the end, both the products try to do the same thing ie prevent you from smelling awful; it’s simply a matter of personal preference. If you don’t sweat profusely, then go for a deodorant. Or you can use an antiperspirant containing zinc and blocks sweat glands.
Can I use the same moisturizer for face and hands?
There are different beauty products to suit your skin’s different requirements. The skin on your face is thinner and is more prone to wrinkles compared to the skin on your hands. So, a facial moisturizer is lightweight and having special components like skin tightening helping in reducing fine lines and wrinkles. On the other hand your hand lotion has a heavier barrier cream and protects your skin from harsh conditions.
