“And there are miles before I sleep, and miles before I sleep.”
Yawn…yes this is a quote that draws a lot of inspiration. But ladies we are what we are and it doesn’t matter what others want and expect from you.
Today’s women are known as multi-tasking. So, yes we cook, we clean, we change diapers, throw clothes in the washing machine, pop up the pillows and then of course run with an espresso to our offices. Most women see this as a sad state of affairs, but hey are you not doing it for yourself?

Aren’t the pay package and all the washroom gossips giving you something to giggle about? Otherwise, it is all the same and life goes on with other people feeling all important and making us women look like dirt.
But yes it is difficult and as a woman I vow to that! As an individual, I realize that at the end of all the needs is a need for personal development and fulfillment. The vicious irony remains that for the same need that the entire Economy and the Money system came in framework, is been left far behind. As the Corporate scenario becomes more and more aggressively competitive, women find it extremely difficult to balance both work and family responsibilities .Late sittings not only create logistical issues ,there are guilt’s associated with not able to give enough to the family, spouse, kids, in-laws, parents and somewhere even to one’s own self. And so as we go higher up in the corporate ladder we see lesser no. of woman at the top.
Perhaps, our society and corporate world needs to take better glance at this dilemma. Does an equal opportunity employer provide enough cushion for a women to go on a sabbatical for balancing her personal life ,taking care of young kids, provide flexible hours ,judge the performance of an individual not by the no of hours she puts in but the value she adds to her job. Sometimes the corporate scenario misses out to understand that our society has not become an equal responsible society. Women are expected to balance both ends and probably also because she is able to do it well. Women have some innate qualities of being a good organizer, multitasker, sensitive and tactful .These are also traits looked in for making good manager.
So, though it is an uphill task, there are certain things that can help us along the way. Take a look at this mantra checklist and see yourself smiling a bit more in the coming days…
- Take baby steps. So, make a list of all the things that you have to do and then take one thing at a time.
- It will not kill to order take away dinner once in a while. So, throw out the guilt and give yourself a break. Repeat it to yourself that you deserve it!
- Look out for alternate career options. Today there are many flexi working women, so why not you. Do something that you enjoy and you want to do.
- Don’t stare at your home as a supervisor every day. What we need to learn from men is to let it be…so, if you don’t clean and scrub everyday it will not bring the home down. Keep only one home task for each day. This way your week will be evenly spread out.
- Live life in short cuts. Yes, we love the six course dinner, but a quick over the counter meal with the right ambience is also not that made.
- Organize and reorganize. Yes, I know most women must be thinking we do organize. But if it doesn’t work out, why not re-organize?
- Ask for help and you will get it. No, it will not make you look vulnerable. Just reach out. If you fail to get response once, then ask again.
So, ladies pep up your life and walk tall as the versatile and dynamic women of today!
P.S. if we can’t do this, where will those sexy motivating women songs come from????
