Seventh Month of Pregnancy

Seventh month of pregnancy marks the beginning of the third and final trimester of your pregnancy. The third trimester of pregnancy is most delicate and women need to be careful in the last three months. At this stage of pregnancy, you have surely started marking the date on your calendar and eagerly waiting for your delivery date to come fast.

Your Baby

Your baby is now growing rapidly and can open and close its eyes, and eye lashes are growing. It can also suck its thumb and cry. Your baby can also kick and stretch itself in your womb as well as respond to light and sound.

Try to talk to your baby from this month and as your baby will be able to hear you and after birth may also recognize your voice. If your baby is born in the seventh month of pregnancy there is a good chance of its survival. Sometime after twenty eight weeks the baby will settle into a head down position. Most will stay in this position for the rest of the pregnancy. Your baby is now about 15 inches long and weighs about 3 pounds.

Your Body

Your body is going through major changes at the 7th month of pregnancy. You may find your ankles and feet swell from standing. Try lying down for a while with your feet raised. If swelling lasts longer than 24 hours, or if hands and face swell suddenly, call your doctor. You may begin to feel some of the discomforts of the third trimester. Some of the common discomforts include constipation, heart burn, headache, indigestion, nasal congestion, back ache and leg cramps. As your belly grows, your center of gravity shifts. Stretch marks are also common from this month and breasts get bigger. Some women also experience false labor contractions known as Braxton Hicks. This is normal in this stage of pregnancy. They are not very painful, but feel more like a tightening. These contractions don’t cause the cervix to efface or dilate. Real contractions get stronger and closer together. But if you have more than 5 contractions in an hour then let your doctor know about it. As your belly gets bigger, you may lose your sense of balance. You will tend to fall easily. Walk slowly and be careful. Just two more months to go.

Prenatal Care Guide

Visit your doctor as per the scheduled appointments. Continue to eat a healthy diet with a variety of food that is good for you. You should gain 1 pound a week this month. Make sure you rest adequately as your body requires it. Most doctors do a blood test for maternal diabetes at 28 to 30 weeks. You may have a glucose tolerance test at this visit. This checks how well your body is metabolizing sugars. It is useful for detecting gestational diabetes. You will be given a glucose solution to drink. Blood will be drawn to determine how well you are processing the sugar. The doctor will also listen to the baby’s heart rate and check the fundal height. This is important for detecting problems such as too much or not enough amniotic fluid.
