What is the one thing that comes to your mind when you think about your favorite mouth watering dishes? For the health conscious the first thing that comes to mind when we see the delicacies is calories. What is the weighing scale going to look like the next morning. But then we can only guess the calorie intake that is going to happen, once we swallow that delicacy. But will you still reach for that large piece of pastry if you know
the exact calorie count? Perhaps not.
Research shows that displaying the calorie count can make us conscious enough to avoid it, especially in sugary drinks and different beverages. There is also another way of putting the entire thing like by putting the amount of time you need to jog to burn out that amount of calories. It was seen that the calorie intake didn’t make too much of a difference, however when the exercise time was mentioned things changed to a large extent.
“In general, people are very bad at estimating the amount of calories in food they consume,” said study researcher Sara Bleich, an assistant professor of health policy and management at Johns Hopkins’s Bloomberg School of Public Health. “If we give them easy ways of examining it…I think we can be effective in reducing calories in purchases.”
Do you want to know the kind of signs that made the most significant change?
250 calories or a 40-minute jog?
It has been researched that if you are taking around 250 calories, then you would require around 40 minutes of jogging time. However, the exercise time is also directly proportional to your body weight. For example, if a teenager weighs around 110 pounds then he would require exercising for around 50 minutes, to simply burn off the 20 ounce bottle of soda. On the other hand a 150 pound person would need to exercise for 40 minutes.
Teenagers of today are far away from being healthy and hence this campaign was extremely beneficial for pushing them in a health conscious direction. It is also suggested that the calorie count also appears on the different menus in restaurants and food joints. This is definitely going to make a positive impact on the health of each one of us.
This is definitely something to look forward to the coming year with the young generation looking for much healthier options to look forward to.
