Happy Tuesday Mantra: Flex the Happiness Muscle

Have you ever considered that happiness in itself is a muscle and just like all the rest of the muscles in your body, this also needs a workout. Without exercise, this muscle will soon stop performing. So, how to keep the happiness quotient going?

How about a Happiness Workout?

The first thing that you need to do is to consciously make time in your schedule to focus on happiness, just like you do for your physical fitness or health. In the hectic pace of life the thing that is ignored the most is our happiness. You can schedule your happiness exercise for just 10 minutes any time in the day, like right after you wake up and then once more 20 minutes in the afternoon or evening once you complete your work.

So what will you do in Happiness Exercise?

Happiness exercise is simpler than you thought. Here are some ideas to get you started:

  1. Think of things that make you happy. What are the things that you like or the things that make you smile or even laugh? You can put it in a list form if it helps. Like if watching cartoons during the day make you happy, do it as a routine.
  2. Play and be childlike. Being kiddish helps. But no, I am not letting to be silly. Turn on your favorite music and just dance away. Enjoy fun time with your kids or pets. Just smile and see yourself in the mirror.
  3. For some people meditation and praying is a source of happiness. So, if that works for you then go for it.
  4. Practice a random act of kindness. Just find simple ways of making others happy, for no reason at all. It will give you immense satisfaction.

Step out of your Comfort Zone

Just like our physical muscles grow when we push them to the extreme by stressing, lifting and pulling heavy weight, our happiness muscle also needs to be challenged.  Check these ideas:

  1. Try out new things that you may like. The concept is to experiment and try out new things. Check out new food items, listen to a different kind of music, just do everything that you ever wanted but were hesitant.
  2. Apologize and forgive. This is a very important happiness mantra. Both these things are very difficult to do, but once you get into the habit of doing it you will feel much more free and happier.

Smile a Lot

Smile is always a sign of happiness. So practice smiling as much as you can and as often as you can. Once you practice this simple act, you will automatically start feeling happier.

Be on the move

Action kills the negative feeling that we have. When you are on move you build new energy and get to do things in life. So, dance run, stretch, swim or any other activity that you enjoy. Other than the happiness muscle, it will also flex your other muscles.

Pamper your Body

It is very difficult to feel happy, if you’re physically not well.  So, get adequate sleep, eat healthy food and exercise regularly.
