Using Credit Cards

Using a credit card wisely is one of the positive ways to develop a strong credit history. For this you need to make your periodic purchases as well as timely payment of your credit card bills. The best way to do this and also handle your budget is by using your credit card to pay for purchases that you would normally make during the month using cash. When the bill comes in try to pay the entire amount completely. This would help in building a positive credit history and will also avoid any accumulation of interest charges or debt. It would also help you get credit cards with good credit.

When Not to Use Credit Cards

Like there is right time for using credit cards wisely, there are also times when you should simply avoid using credit cards altogether. Credit cards should never be used when you are emotionally unstable. Or if you are in an impulsive shopping mood, then leave your credit card at home. Never give out your credit card number to those tempting telemarketers. There are many online scams going on that take your credit card number and then misuse them.

Credit Card is not an Emergency Fund

Many people think that credit cards are their way out of all kinds of trouble. But that is just opposite of what is really happening to you. There may be times you are partying and ran out of money and slapped a whole lot of drinks on your cards. The next day other than the hangover you are sure to regret your decision as well. Plan ahead and don’t make every problem an emergency. Also don’t carry too many credit cards with you all the time. Select the best credit cards that will be accepted everywhere and stick to it.

Stay away from Cash Withdrawals

There is a difference between your Debit card and your credit card usage. For cash it is always advised to use your debit card and not your credit cards. When we take out money using our credit card, the interest rates are much higher. At the end of the month the statement is just not going to look pretty. So, if you want to use your credit card wisely stick to your debit/atm cards.

Best Way to Use Credit Cards

The best way to use credit cards is always looking what extra things you can get, like credit cards cash back or loyalty point on credit card usage etc. Find a credit card that offers you deals and discounts on shopping, eating, gas filling etc. This way, every time you use your credit card, you get something back in return.
